Movies

Favourite directors with multiple masterpieces: Billy Wilder (Sunset Boulevard, Some Like it hot, The Apartment, Double indemnity), Akira Kurosawa (The Seven Samurais, Rashomon), Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner), Sergio Leone (The good, the bad and the ugly; Once upon a time in the West), Jean-Pierre Junot (The city of lost children, Amelie), Stanley Kubrick (2001: A space odessey, Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb) There are of course many more good directors, but most of them only get it perfect once in their careers.
Also, I really have no understanding of people dismissing to watch a movie simply based on its production year. Personally, I think B/W images are often much more beatiful than colour images. In B/W images you are not distracted by some irrelevant objects in strong colours. This allows the director to guide the viewers attention even more.
Series: Yada yada yada. "Seinfeld". The show about nothing is just funny. "The Office" (only british version), "Sherlock Holmes" (with Jeremy Brett. The only true version of the character for me. I also love the novels & short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle themselves). Simpsons. My preferred cartoon comedy show. The old Disney Donald Duck shorts are also golden. Pixar really saved american animation movies.

Music

If I had to pick just one band, it would be "Guns N'Roses" and frontman Axl Rose, who I think is a very talented and fascinating character. Of course, being a fan these days is not so easy ;-), because the last studio album was released 15 years ago. Of course, a few songs from the forever in production album "Chinese democracy" have leaked to the public, and the music is still great and also comtemporary. I'm still hoping for the release of the album. Let's see - maybe China actually will have democracy when the album comes out. Other favourite artists/bands are: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Jeff Buckley, Blind Melon, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Copeland, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Radiohead and many more ... BTW. I still prefer to have the physical albums, the artwork, the lyrics, notes, etc. It's just a better experience for me that way.

Books

Besides enjoying books by Stephen King and similar authors, I also like stories set in historcal times or just plain history books. My favourite authors are Stefan Zweig, Paul Auster, Arthur Conan Doyle, Jean-Paul Sartre, i.e. a slightly odd mix. Oh, yeah, and cook books because I love food.
