Welcome to the Nielsen group web page! We work on statistical and computational methods in genomics, phylogenetics and population genetics. Most projects in the group involve development of new theory or statistical methodology for data analysis, but some projects are focused more on data analysis.

Examples of recent projects include:
(1) The development of methods for estimation of demographic parameters and detection of selection from large Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) data sets and other large genomic data sets.
(2) The analysis of more than 20,000 orthologous genes from humans and chimpanzees for the purpose of identifying genes of evolutionary significant genes (positive selection).
(3) The development of a Bayesian method for estimating the history of inversions and translocations between chromosomes.

On this page you can find information on members of the research group, computer programs we distribute, and on collaborators of the group. Rasmus Nielsen is one leave from Cornell University during 2004-2005. He is currently at the (Center for Bioinformatics) at University of Copenhagen. More information regarding statistical and population genomics at Cornell University can be found at the Bustamante web site (link).
