Postdocs:
New posting for Postdocs in applied computational biology/bioinformatics. Deadline 1 Nov (Now closed).
The Bioinformatics Centre, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen is recruiting 1-2 postdocs to work on gene regulation bioinformatics in Albin Sandelin group(http://people.binf.ku.dk/albin/). The Bioinformatics Centre (www.binf.ku.dk) employs around 40 researchers, and has many international connections with high-profile experimental groups. The group is housed in the newly built Biocenter in central Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Sandelin group is a well-funded, joint computational/experimental laboratory, focusing on transcriptomics, gene regulation and disease. The postdoc(s) will be working on various problems relating to gene regulation and core promoters in disease, typically analyzing novel and extremely rich data sets from the experimental part of the group or high-profile international collaborators. Special emphasis will be placed on CAGE data, alternative promoters and splicing in brain tissue and in disease cells. The work requires the successful candidate to interact with experimental biologists on an almost daily basis, and therefore collaborative skills and willingness to learn new things are important. As a postdoc you are expected to be able to work fairly independently and to be able to co-supervise Ph.D. and Master´s students.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics or a mathematical discipline with a strong biological interest, and a substantial publication record in high-quality international journals. Applicants that are close to finishing their PhD degree are also welcome to apply. Applicants should either have strong modeling/applied statistics skills or strong documented experience in analyzing high-throughput sequencing data. In addition, we strongly value experience in one or more of the following: sequence analysis, machine learning, applied statistics and R, computer science and expression analysis. The candidate also needs to be highly proficient in a programming language such as Java, Perl or Python, and be comfortable with Linux systems. Fluency in spoken and written English is a strong requirement.
The deadline for application is November 1, 2011. We expect the successful candidates to start in the late fall of 2011. These positions will be funded by grants from the Novo Nordisk or Lundbeck Foundations.

The applications will be evaluated by an expert in the field to select those that qualify for the positions. Each applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns her/him as well as the name of the expert. The main criterion for further consideration will be the research potential of the applicant. The successful applicant will be hired as a postdoc at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, for an initial 2 year period. While negotiation for salary supplement is possible, the starting salary level is currently DKK 31.400 a month (approx. US $ 6000) plus contribution to a pension scheme. Terms of appointment and payment according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC). Postdocs in general
I am always interested in informal inquiries from promising candidates. For computational candidates, a PhD in bioinformatics or a mathematical discipline is required. For experimental postdocs, a PhD in molecular biology or similar is requires, together with documented experience in setting up new techniques and RNA work. Regardless of background, you need to have a substantial publication record .
PhD students in general:
As with postdocs, I am always interested in informal inquiries from promising candidates. In general, you should have a background similar to our bioinformatics Masters program
Project/Master thesis students
We can always find room for promising students, but students on the Bioinformatics program have priority. We have also had a few students doing Master thesis projects shared between us and an experimental group.
